While working in the corporate world in Nashville, TN John and Sue Elliott realized the answer to the question “what do you want to do when you grow up” was own and operate a bed and breakfast. While working with a Realtor they were introduced to a chocolate shop in the North Carolina mountains that had been closed for two and half years.
Within months the Elliotts were making chocolate and growing a loyal customer base. Making and selling chocolate was a natural fit for John’s 25 years in the food service industry. Sue’s accounting background and kind smile made her both CFO and a customer favorite.
Their desire to be near a larger city and the growth opportunities the Charlotte region offered brought John and Sue to the college town of Davidson, NC. In 2008 the Elliotts founded Davidson Chocolate Co. Their son, John, already living in Davidson eagerly joined the business finding that the likelihood of getting a date went up with the phrase “I own a chocolate shop.” Utilizing his sales and fund raising background John Jr. oversees marketing and outside sales efforts.
John Sr. serves as head chocolatier. He is a graduate of the Barry Callebaut Chocolate Academy and refines his chocolate making skill on a daily basis. Looking through the window in the Davidson store you’ll see him cranking out classic favorites and creating new truffle flavors. An unrelenting commitment to quality, freshness, and selection is found in the comprehensive offering of chocolates and confections made at Davidson Chocolate Co.
Whether its hearing the post – Valentine thank you from an appreciative husband or scooping ice cream for a school field trip, the Elliotts love what they do. You’ll find a few chocolate lovers who do too.
